How to use the generator
Choose the type of dystopia, tone and story focus you want. The intensity setting controls how urgent and dangerous the main conflict will be.
Select Lock beside any part you want to keep. When you choose Replace unlocked parts, the generator will keep the locked sections and create new versions of everything else. You can also add an image or phrase that you want to include in the story.
What makes a strong dystopian premise?
A setting alone is not a story. A story begins when someone wants something that their world has made difficult or impossible. Strong dystopian premises usually include three things:
- A system that has a reason for existing, even if that reason is flawed.
- A protagonist who once benefited from the system but now needs to resist it.
- A difficult choice with real consequences.
Use the hidden truth to make the conflict less predictable. Use the central question to decide what the story is really about. Then use the opening scene as the starting point for your first draft.
