About Ash Tales
Ash Tales is an independent online magazine for post-apocalyptic fiction. We publish original short stories about nuclear war, pandemics, climate collapse, failed technology, social breakdown and quieter, stranger endings.
Ash Tales is home to stories by authors whose writing has appeared in The New York Times, The Atlantic, The Washington Post, North American Review and Escape Pod. Our contributors include Nigel Jarrett, winner of the Rhys Davies Prize for short fiction and the Templar Shorts award; Emma Pattee, author of the USA TODAY bestseller Tilt; and AE Stueve, whose novel Former was a Foreword INDIES finalist.
Ash Tales has been included in the Writers’ & Artists’ Yearbook, and our podcast has been featured in The Guardian. Across 22 episodes, the podcast has attracted around 200,000 downloads.
About the editor
Hi, I’m Ryan Law. I started Ash Tales in 2015 as somewhere to publish the stories I was writing about the end of the world.
I’ve been fascinated by the subject for more than fifteen years, researching everything from homesteading and wilderness survival to nuclear fallout patterns. I’m the author of The Green Priest and The Death-Marked Pilgrim, the first two books in my post-apocalyptic fantasy series, The Rainmaker Writings.
In my day job, I’m Director of Content Marketing at Ahrefs. I’ve spent most of my career writing, editing and helping other people explain complicated ideas clearly.
